With a new freshman quarterback at the helm NU managed one offensive TD on its way to a 20-10 win over hapless Baylor.

Looking at the posswssion time the Blackshirts didn't get much rest.

Enjoy the win because next week it is Oklahoma.

Eight Turnovers Iowa State 9 Huskers 7

Not much to write about for this game. Iowa State did a great job of causing fumbles and intercepting passes.

The Huskers didn't get many, if any, breaks..

Next week Baylor at Waco .....paid TV

Huskers lose 31-10 to Texas Tech

While watching the game on TV just before half time my Good Wife Donna got the shivers and the shakes and threw up. The play finally got to her. She did get to feeling better after the game ended....

At half time while leaving the field through the tunnel. Coach Bo turned around and glared at the crowd which was booing him..... Booing Bo ... that's something different.

Bo also did a lot of yelling at the officials during this game. Right or wrong on the calls I thought it was really kind of a childish thing for him to carry on at the length he did.

And in his press interview after the game he again told us how great of a coach his offensive coordinator Watson, is. That after only 24 net rushing yards .....

Bo ...Get rid of Watson... your offense stinks.

Well, thats enough of me cutting up the coaching staff....

Maybe next Saturday against Iowa State at 11:30 AM on Fox Sports Network it will all come together for the Huskers for a complete game.

    Go Big Red

    Huskers win 27 to 12

The Husker move up to 14th in the standings after a 27-12 comeback win over their first Big 12 opponent Missouri.

The down pouring rain made it difficult to judge the play under offensive coordinator Watson's West Coast Offense which accomplished nothing during the first three quarters.

But lo and behold it almost looked like Dr. Tom took over the job in the last quarter  as the Huskers used the Power I with the double wing. The result was great as the renforced line opened up holes for the running game and got Missouri so shook up that they forgot to play pass defense. Let's see more of that....

Next up this Saturday, October 17th at 2:30 PM ...Texas Tech in Lincoln.  The game will be telecast as an ABC regional show.

    Huskers win 55-0

    What can I say ?

The Huskers dominated the game in every aspect of play. I guess these types of games at the beginning of the season are money makers for both teams but certainly don't show us how good the Huskers might do in the Big 12.

the game did give freshman Cody Green playing time at QB.. He can really run the ball.......... and was 7-8 in passing.

Henery had two Field Goals and the longest was 55 yards.  He may be the guy that could win most of our Big 12 games......

Their first Big 12 game is Thursday October 8th at Columbia Missouri.  The game is at 8 PM CST and will be on ESPN TV.

They have no game this coming Saturday.

You West Coast and Texas people keep on cheering for Big Red...

    Huskers lose to VT

    Close game....

Henery's field goals seem to be our best offensive threat. Maybe he should have been allowed to try one more instead of punting in the waning munutes of the last quarter?

In review the Huskers probably played a good game against one of the nation's top football programs... just a slow start and a bad defensive end.

Next week is Louisiana Lafayette... That game should give the Huskers more experience for starting the Big 12 race against Missouri the following week

    Arkansas State 9 Huskers 38

It wasn't much of a contest but by all reports the Huskers showed improvement. Zac Lee had a great day passing the ball and Niles Paul ran a great end-around for touchdown. total offense of 494 yards was pretty good. The defense made 2 sacks after not getting any in the first game.

    Florida Atlantic

It wasn't much of a contest according to the writers, coaches and those who saw the game. It was only on Pay TV....

I didn't see any reports of the offensive line nailing their quarterback and it seemed  like the defense allowed a lot of yardage to an overmatched team....

When Doctor Tom Osborne was coaching and had a TV show he sat with a play list and talked a little about each play in the game. And you saw almost all of the plays, both offense and defense, minus the time outs, huddles, etc, Then maybe he talked with one player. For those of us who weren't at the game it was great.

Now there are two Husker TV shows each week .... The Husker Countdown and the BO Pelini Show.

     They both stink.

The Pelini  45 minute show showed only the parts of the best plays and very few of them and repeated them several times during the show.  Lots of talk from Bo with a closeup on him in the studio. And too much talk with the players. Not enough plays were shown to give any feel for the actual game. OH Yeah, Bo didn't wear his old gray sweatshirt ... He dressed up in a white collared Husker sweatsuit.....

The Husker Countdown show's game footage couldn't have been more than 8 minutes and was done about 12 minutes after the show started. I turned it off.....

So next week is Arkansas State...

    Guess I'll keep on cheering....

    The 2009 Season Starts

Next Saturday the Huskers play their first game and the opponent is Florida Atlantic. The game will be on paid TV...

In an earlier forcast of the season I predicted that they would not win more than 9 games.

But after a lot of reading and listening to sports shows I am going to lower that prediction to not winning more than 7 games. Now as a long time fan, I hope and will cheer for them to do better   ...but...

    The quarterback is inexperienced.

The wide receivers are an unknown.

The offense line needs to improve.

The coach kicked his best experienced short yardage running back off the team.

The tight ends seem to be the best of the offense but can the QB get the ball to them with   a line which might not be able to pass block ...

The best offensive threat will be the absolutely great field goal kicker who has a range of over 50 yards.

The Defensive line is good and will have to carry the load on that side of the ball.

Anyway ... I will cheer for them .... and maybe after the first game things will look better..........

    Bowl Winner 26-21

A great game to watch.... come from behind and win by less than a touchdown.

The second half work of the Husker Defense won the game by keeping Clemson from keeping up with Castille's running output.

A good season   ..... Nine wins.......

The highlight accomplisment of the season was the ball control shown in the last 5 games of the year. If we have the ball they cannot score....

Thanks for looking at this blog this year...

Huskers 40 Buffalos 31 Game States

While it didn't have the "Look at them guys go" excitement of the 'Champioship Years' where the scores had a big spread, this game was one of the most exciting ones we have seen for awhile.
Imagine a 57 yard field goal to go ahead by two points and then a tip and interceprtion by the defensive linemen Potter and Suh to lock it away in the last minute............
8 an 4 gets us into the bowl picture, probably the Gater Bowl, New Year's Day.
OH Yeah who was the Blogger that predicted NU would win at least 8 games ......YEP... Ol' Dickielee

    Husker - K State Stats

What can I say...... Ganz throws the first one to the wrong team and then comes back and does it all.

Remembering that KS is not all that good ... they fired their coach.... the Huskers did a good job of pounding them.

    No TV

Only five free telecasts this year. It is hard to remain a fan when you cannot afford to see the games. I expected better from Dr. Tom... It is hard to write a blog when you cannot see the whole game

Pelini finally gave out the blackshirts after this last game.  I guess part of a tradition is better than none.

Cody Glenn got kick off the team for breaking team rules.....

If we can win the last two , my 8 wins prediction will come true and I will 'retire' from bogging.......

    Bombed by the Sooners

I thought Pelini was hired to improve the defense...

He sure has a mouth on him and must have graduated with a major in yelling.

He grabbed one of his defenseive players by the face masked and yelled into his face......He should have gotten a penalty for that... maybe Doctor Tom should teach him how to calm down...

The game went about as everyone expected.

Too bad the Huskers couldn't have made a better showing in some areas...

Next week is Kansas and it could turn out just as bad..............

    Huskers 32 Baylor 20

Bad Stuff  3 fumbles and 6 penalties  ... and not giving the ball to Lucky about twice as much as they did.

Good Stuff  38:37 possession ... 11 of 17 third down conversions.... holding Baylor to 0-10 third down conversions.

Ganz to Swift passing game is still working as Swift caught 11 passes for 121 yards and a new career record for passes caught for the Huskers

The season record is now 5-3 .  I might still make my preseason win-loss prediction of 8 wins. We would need to and could beat Kansas, Kansas State, and Colorado.
