Huskers lose to VT

Close game....

Henery's field goals seem to be our best offensive threat. Maybe he should have been allowed to try one more instead of punting in the waning munutes of the last quarter?

In review the Huskers probably played a good game against one of the nation's top football programs... just a slow start and a bad defensive end.

Next week is Louisiana Lafayette... That game should give the Huskers more experience for starting the Big 12 race against Missouri the following week

Arkansas State 9 Huskers 38

It wasn't much of a contest but by all reports the Huskers showed improvement. Zac Lee had a great day passing the ball and Niles Paul ran a great end-around for touchdown. total offense of 494 yards was pretty good. The defense made 2 sacks after not getting any in the first game.

Florida Atlantic

It wasn't much of a contest according to the writers, coaches and those who saw the game. It was only on Pay TV....

I didn't see any reports of the offensive line nailing their quarterback and it seemed  like the defense allowed a lot of yardage to an overmatched team....

When Doctor Tom Osborne was coaching and had a TV show he sat with a play list and talked a little about each play in the game. And you saw almost all of the plays, both offense and defense, minus the time outs, huddles, etc, Then maybe he talked with one player. For those of us who weren't at the game it was great.

Now there are two Husker TV shows each week .... The Husker Countdown and the BO Pelini Show.

 They both stink.

The Pelini  45 minute show showed only the parts of the best plays and very few of them and repeated them several times during the show.  Lots of talk from Bo with a closeup on him in the studio. And too much talk with the players. Not enough plays were shown to give any feel for the actual game. OH Yeah, Bo didn't wear his old gray sweatshirt ... He dressed up in a white collared Husker sweatsuit.....

The Husker Countdown show's game footage couldn't have been more than 8 minutes and was done about 12 minutes after the show started. I turned it off.....

So next week is Arkansas State...

Guess I'll keep on cheering....

The 2009 Season Starts

Next Saturday the Huskers play their first game and the opponent is Florida Atlantic. The game will be on paid TV...

In an earlier forcast of the season I predicted that they would not win more than 9 games.

But after a lot of reading and listening to sports shows I am going to lower that prediction to not winning more than 7 games. Now as a long time fan, I hope and will cheer for them to do better   ...but...

The quarterback is inexperienced.

The wide receivers are an unknown.

The offense line needs to improve.

The coach kicked his best experienced short yardage running back off the team.

The tight ends seem to be the best of the offense but can the QB get the ball to them with   a line which might not be able to pass block ...

The best offensive threat will be the absolutely great field goal kicker who has a range of over 50 yards.

The Defensive line is good and will have to carry the load on that side of the ball.

Anyway ... I will cheer for them .... and maybe after the first game things will look better..........

Bowl Winner 26-21

A great game to watch.... come from behind and win by less than a touchdown.

The second half work of the Husker Defense won the game by keeping Clemson from keeping up with Castille's running output.

A good season   ..... Nine wins.......

The highlight accomplisment of the season was the ball control shown in the last 5 games of the year. If we have the ball they cannot score....

Thanks for looking at this blog this year...

Huskers 40 Buffalos 31 Game States

While it didn't have the "Look at them guys go" excitement of the 'Champioship Years' where the scores had a big spread, this game was one of the most exciting ones we have seen for awhile.
Imagine a 57 yard field goal to go ahead by two points and then a tip and interceprtion by the defensive linemen Potter and Suh to lock it away in the last minute............
8 an 4 gets us into the bowl picture, probably the Gater Bowl, New Year's Day.

What can I say...... Ganz throws the first one to the wrong team and then comes back and does it all.

Remembering that KS is not all that good ... they fired their coach.... the Huskers did a good job of pounding them.

No TV

Only five free telecasts this year. It is hard to remain a fan when you cannot afford to see the games. I expected better from Dr. Tom... It is hard to write a blog when you cannot see the whole game

Pelini finally gave out the blackshirts after this last game.  I guess part of a tradition is better than none.

Cody Glenn got kick off the team for breaking team rules.....

If we can win the last two , my 8 wins prediction will come true and I will 'retire' from bogging.......

Bombed by the Sooners

I thought Pelini was hired to improve the defense...

He sure has a mouth on him and must have graduated with a major in yelling.

He grabbed one of his defenseive players by the face masked and yelled into his face......He should have gotten a penalty for that... maybe Doctor Tom should teach him how to calm down...

The game went about as everyone expected.

Too bad the Huskers couldn't have made a better showing in some areas...

Next week is Kansas and it could turn out just as bad..............

Huskers 32 Baylor 20

Bad Stuff  3 fumbles and 6 penalties  ... and not giving the ball to Lucky about twice as much as they did.

Good Stuff  38:37 possession ... 11 of 17 third down conversions.... holding Baylor to 0-10 third down conversions.

Ganz to Swift passing game is still working as Swift caught 11 passes for 121 yards and a new career record for passes caught for the Huskers

The season record is now 5-3 .  I might still make my preseason win-loss prediction of 8 wins. We would need to and could beat Kansas, Kansas State, and Colorado.

Huskers 35 Iowa State 7

Hoo Hum .... We are still Nebraska and they were still Iowa State

Nothing to get excited about good or bad except maybe the five Husker fumbles.

Ganz throwing and Swift catching is quite a combination that seemed to set the pace of the game.

Having more wide receivers in the lineup at once was a change in offensive tactics as was snapping the ball to Lucky as the lone back behind center in the shotgun. They only tried that twice and both plays were succesfull.

Next week is Baylor and that may turn into a toss up.

Texas Tech 37 Huskers 31 OT

Due to circumstances we went to a 5 PM Mass on Saturday evening and missed seeing most of the 4th quarter of the game on TV.

About the time Ganz threw the losing interception, the lights in the church went out. My first thought was that God was sending a message that the Huskers had lost the game and that  God did not like all the "Jesus Christ"s that I had yelled out during the game for each penalty.. 8 for 55 yards.... most all on the offense

Overall I liked the effort and game plan. A good mix of running and short passes. Controlling the ball by 40 minutes to 20 minutes. And red zone scores 5 for 5.

I would have liked to see Lucky run the ball 15 more times ... up around 30 attempts.  He needs the attempts to get some break loose opportunities and go the touchdowns .

GO HUSKERS

Mizzou 52 Huskers 17

Having won the game in the first three quarters, Missouri let up at the end. One wonders what the score might have been
if they had kept up the attack.
Coach Bo took the blame for the loss and apologized to the fans. Said it was his fault and
the fault of the coaches because the players were making errors.
As I watched the game I wondered what happened to the running game that we were promised.
Maybe those plays were not called ... we only got 79 yards rushing .. Maybe we need a new offensive coordinator ...
And Barney...what happened to that offensive line that played so good in the third game.
On the positive side, remember that NU is not even ranked and Mizzou was number 4 going into the game.
Next week is Texas Tech and it will undoubtedly be a repeat of this game.
Sigh! What is a loyal fan supposed to do ????

Two Weeks Too LONG Huskers lose 30-35

Two weeks without a game must have been too long.

As I predicted in this blog before the game.... NU would start our slow. But I also predicted that they would come back and win the game.

NU came out with many missed tackles... many on the same play, fumbles, interceptions and just plain all around play that stunk....

I didn't count on Coach Boooo Pelini  not helping matters when late in the game he complained about a late hit call and wouldn't shut up and got an unsportsman conduct penalty that let Virginia Tech get the ball on the 10 yard line and lead to their score

Next week the Huskers play Missouri at 8 PM on national ESPN

I guess as a loyal fan that I have to say GO BIG RED  and maybe SHUT UP COACH BO
