September 24 Now that was an exciting finish. Sam Keller guides the Huskers down the field with a very professional passing plan to go ahead by one point and then the defense stops Ball State and forces them the to try a 55 yard failed field goal. Keller by the way set a Cornhusker record for passing yardage in a single game..... Like the coach said, "A win is a win" The problem for many Husker fans is that it isn't a win by 40 or 50 points like we had in the Glory Days......You know some of those games were actually boring because there was no doublt about the outcome. Nebraska goes to 3-1 and is ranked 22nd in the USA Today Coaches Poll and 25th in the AP Poll. Next up is Iowa State on Saturday 9/29/2007 at Lincoln at 1:05 ... No TV is scheduled. Whew.... my "Loyal Fan" prediction is still 11-1 Defensive Coach Cosgrove and his players were left to answer for another dismal performance. A week after giving up 457 yards and 49 points at home to top-ranked Southern California, the Huskers allowed 610 yards and 40 points to a Ball State team that hasn't had a winning season since 1996. Nebraska enters this week's Big 12 opener against Iowa State ranked 74th in scoring defense (29 ppg), 75th in total defense (407 ypg), 99th in rushing defense (203.5 ypg) and tied for 111th in sacks (3). It is hard to believe that the NU fans are booing their defensive team but they are. I don't think that really solves any problems.......... September 23 Team Statistics (Final)

September 21 I can remember as a kid playing 'touch' sandlot football where a defensive hand touch (sometimes with both hands) was considered a tackle. Apparently that is what the Huskers have been doing since the season started in their practices. It was really obvious in the USC game that they carried this over to the real game instead of making drive them to the ground tackles. The worst part about this is that I can remember the same thing happening several years ago with the same results..... September 17 The Huskers dropped from # 14 to # 22 in the USA Today coaches poll and to # 24 in the AP poll. Next game ... Saturday 9-22-2007 Ball State ... on pay per view September 16 "Fool me once Shame on you Fool me twice Shame on me." What happened to the Huskers was that they kept getting fooled by the same set of USC ground plays. And that was really a shame.............. Defensive Coordinator Cosgrove either needs to teach his guys how to tackle or he needs to leave town. For the second game in a row the defensive fundementals stunk to high heaven. I guess that USC's rushing defense was just so good that the Huskers line couldn't make even a small hole for the backs to wiggle through. So that leaves just the Husker passing game and that was the best thing they did. I thought Keller and the receivers played a great game against USC. Maybe we ought to change from the West Coast Offense to the Air It Out Offense. I predicted at the beginning of the year that the Huskers would only lose one game.... This game was it .... Us true fans have to stay optimistic....So I'm sticking with it and still saying they will go 11-1 USC vs Nebraska (Sept. 15, 2007 at Lincoln, Neb.)

September 12 Callahan's annual salary is $1.75 million, and he can earn "exceptional performance bonuses" totaling $425,000. Under the bonus structure, Callahan would receive $50,000 for winning the Big 12 North and an additional $75,000 for winning the conference championship game. Callahan gets $50,000 if the Huskers play in a non-BCS bowl. On top of the $100,000 Callahan would earn for taking the Huskers to a BCS game, he would earn an additional $100,000 for winning one. The contract requires Callahan to notify athletic director Steve Pederson if he decides to engage in negotiations with another college or professional team. Callahan would not have to pay a penalty if he decides to leave Nebraska before the contract expires Jan. 31, 2012. The university and Callahan also agreed to meet by Feb. 1 of each year to review the state of the program and renegotiate the coach's compensation package. September 10 It wasn't pretty but it had a lot of exciting plays by both teams and the game officials. Wake Forest won the possesion time contest, but NU's 2 minutes more on the field during the 4th quarter was critical to the win. A week of practice on fundementals wouldn't hurt at this point to correct the missed tackles ans dropped passes. Next up.... #1 ranked USC at 7 PM on Saturday 9-15-2007 on ABC in Lincoln. The Huskers moved up to #14 in both polls.... September 09 Team Statistics

September 06 The Associated Press Poll moved the Huskers from #20 to #16 The USA Today Poll moved the Huskers from #19 to #17 September 05 I was traveling on game day so watched the Huskers on video las tnight as the beat Nevada 52-10. I was impressed with three areas... The offensive line... The kicking game... The running backs... The transfer quarterback Keller looked good and may be able to help the Huskers do it all. I think the defense may have been lucky that they were only on the field for a third of the game. Next game is this Saturday against Wake Forest on ESPN at 11 AM. September 04 Nebraska football Coach Bill Callahan has a new five-year contract that runs through the 2011 season, including any postseason bowl game. With the potential for $425,000 in performance bonuses based on championships won, the new deal could boost his $1.5 million salary to $1.75 million annually. He was paid $1.7 million last season. Callahan, 51, has compiled a 23-15 record since becoming the Huskers’ coach in 2004. NEV NEB
