This morning as I was coming out of the neighborhood McDonalds I accidentally bumped into a guy coming in. As I am a pretty big heavy (fat) guy and he was smaller, I knocked him off stride and he had to to take a little stutter step to keep his balance. As he muttered something under his breath, I looked down at him and recognized him as the Nebraska Cornhusker football coach, Bill Callahan, whose team suffered a somewhat embarrassing 28 to 10 loss on Saturday to USC. Before I could say anything he said, "Sorry, no offense intended." I quickly replied, " The defense wasn't very good either." Now the genesis of that story belongs to legandary Nebraska coach and athletic director Bob Devaney as written about himself and a fan in his biography, but may express the feeling of many Nebraska fans this week. I still stand by my prediction of only losing three games this season. We are now 2-1. Hope springs eternal and I am counting on you all to cheer the Big Red on against Troy this next Saturday. Team Stats to date2006 Nebraska Cornhuskers Nebraska Overall Team Statistics (as of Sep 17, 2006) All games
68 Rushing YardsCoach Callahan's game plan to establish a ground game resulted in only 68 yards rushing on 36 carries. Only 10 1st downs by rushing were made. 211 total yards were disappointing to the Big Red fans who were hoping for more from the 'West Coast' offense. The Huskers depleted defensive backfield was no match for USC's passing game either. The 28-10 loss drops the Huskers out of the top 20 in the polls September 12 Huskers Move UpThe Nebraska Cornhuskers moved up to # 19 in both of the big Polls......... September 02 NU beats up on Louisana TechAfter a slow start NU picks up the pace in its running game and passing game to swamp the Louisana Tech team.
Overall my feeling is that NU needs to work on its kick coverage game and be quicker to change blocking schemes.
The Passing game was great and was enhanced by the quartet of running backs who made some great and some tough gains.
