    Running Backs

Missing from the depth chart for the first Husker game of the 2007 season is Cody Glenn, the guy who was going to be one of the work horses this year. He has a hamstring injury.

The other running back expected to return, Marvin Lucky, has missed most of the preseaon workout after suffering a concussion during an early practice.

Sixteen newcomers including 9 freshmen are listed.

Who knows? A new star could rise at running back this year from those speedy new freshmen.

One Week To the First Game

A week from today on September 1st the Huskers play Nevada-Reno at 2:30 PM in Lincoln. The game will be on ABC television as a regional broadcast.

As you may recall I have predicted that the Huskers will be 11-1 during the season. Since then many other ratings and rankings and predictions have been published that make me feel like I am really out to the end of the limb.

The latest of the naysayers is the Omaha World Herald who has picked the Huskers to finish 4th in the Big 12. You would think that the home state newspaper would be more optimistic than that.......

    I am.......

    West Coast System

According to Shawn Watson, the Husket offensive Coordinator, the West Coast system’s fundamental objective, in Watson’s words: “Controlling the football, eating up clock, eating up chain, finishing drives. You want to help your defense be a better defense by being a ball-control offense. That’s how it works.”

He went on to say that the Huskers want the opponent's defense to have to react to the Husker offense not the other way around........

    Two Weeks to Go

Two weeks from today we will have seen what the 2007 Huskers can do on the field.

They ought to be in really good physical shape with all the scorching heat they have been practicing in.

The two top running backs have both been hurt and out of practice. One has just returned. That moved my seasons prediction even further out on the limb.

Sports Illistrated  ranks the Huskers #18

    USA Today ranks them #19

    AP ranks them #20...........

    Fall Practice Starts

Today is the first day of scheduled practice for the Cornhuskers football team. Of course most of the players have been practicing all summer, just no coaches allowed ....

NU is picked to end up 2nd in the Big 12 North and 19th in the nation by the USA experts.

Three opponents, USC, Texas, and Oklahoma are picked to finish ahead of them in that USA Coaches Poll.

The Huskers have a new kicking whiz on board to fill in a gap that was pretty wide last year. They also could have a good defensive backfield. The defensive line is a big untested unit that may be their biggest weakness.

So they may need an offense that can put up a lot points on the board.

Bolstered by a strong offensive line, great running backs, good receivers, and a transfer from Arizona State, Quarterback Keller who is 6'4" and 230 pounds with a tested arm; I am going to predict that the Huskers will only lose to one of those three picked ahead of them in the poll.

Wow, that is really out on a limb isn't it ?  11-1 for the year.

Butyou have to be a Big Red Fan all the way don't you????
